Three years ago friends (and now biz partners) Pablo Gabella & chef Francis Balongo, who previously worked together at Castizo, opened their dream-come-true Marabunda, in the original central La Azotea location. For me it felt at once familiar yet new, a bright and airy space with a bar for tapas and a cosy dining area for larger plates. Good to see them continuing to do well (they’ve also just opened a second spot, taking over La Chunga and putting their own stamp on it).
The menu here is “short and sweet” as so many are these days, but it’s also well thought out so there’s a good balance between starters, seafood and meat dishes. There are also daily specials so be sure to check those out. Loved the perfect matrimonio and super crispy panko carabinero croquetas. Meanwhile the chicharrón saam is a pure fresh bite of happiness. Great ambiance, friendly service and a good selection of national wines and beers.
